The main objective of the Gita Press is to publish the spiritual, moral and character-building books and magazines at subsidised prices, lower than their actual cost.
Out of 1600 current publications of the Gita Press 780 are in Hindi and Sanskrit . The rest of the publications are in English and other Indian languages - Gujarati, Telugu Oriya, Bengla, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, Assamiya, Malyalam, Nepali, Urdu and Punjabi.
The publications of the Gita Press are available at its 18 branches, 30 station-stalls and with thousands of booksellers. New publications are advertised in Kalyan and Yug Kalyan Magazines from time to time. These publications are also displayed and sold in book-fairs, book-exhibitions, and religious fairs etc.
This institution neither solicits any form of donation nor accepts commercial advertisements in its books and magazines.
During year 2008-09 books worth 32 crores were sold and the paper weighing 4500 tonnes was utilized for their publication.
Till March 2009 Gita Press had published 454.5 million copies of books including 81 million copies of Gita in Indian languages.
